Norwegian Customs (and Hatteland Display) win vote at the WCO Harmonized System Committee.

Returning to an ongoing case at the World Customs Organisation's Harmonized System Committee where Hatteland Display's 23 inch Maritime Multi Display (MMD) display product has been discussed several times.

The case was again on the agenda as part of a request by the Norwegian customs authorities to reclassify the product at the 46th Session of the committee, which met in Brussels on the 17th September 2010.

23_inch_display_globe Representatives from Hatteland Display attended the committee alongside the Norwegian customs delegates, in order to make a presentation and argue the case for re-classification of the product. The current classification meant that customs duty was payable on this display. Another classification heading which we have argued would be (more realistic) in depicting the product's use, would mean that no duty would have to paid by our customers importing the product. The argument we have long championed was further legitimized at the committee meeting through support received by a number of key nations. The vote at the end of the session went in our favour 15 to 12.

The matter is not yet closed however, with there being a period for a possible appeal by any member country of the WCO should they choose to. If such an appeal is not forthcoming, the ruling will be made in our favour and the classification heading changed by early 2011 we hope.
